Kampout is one of those indie horror flicks that really leans into the folklore aspect of Bigfoot lore, with a raw energy that makes it stand out. The pacing is pretty tight; it builds tension well as you get to know the characters—Detective Benson and Ranger Thomas are your classic mismatched duo, and Hank, the researcher, adds a nice layer of comic relief. The atmosphere is thick with dread, especially in those isolated camping scenes. Practical effects are charmingly rough around the edges; it feels more grounded than some of the CGI-heavy stuff out there. The performances, while not award-winning, have a kind of earnestness that draws you in. It's definitely got a unique vibe, a real slice of indie horror that scratches that Bigfoot itch.
