Karroll's Christmas is this interesting little slice of life that seems to grapple with the complexities of Christmas spirit, or the lack thereof. Allen Karroll, played with a mix of cynicism and vulnerability, goes through this journey where he has to confront not just his own bitterness but also the cheerfulness of those around him, particularly his annoying neighbor Zeb Rosecog. This film balances drama and light fantasy elements, creating a tension that feels very grounded. There’s a sense of magical realism that seeps through in the way the story unfolds, and the pacing sometimes drags but eventually picks up, especially as Christmas draws near. The performances have a certain warmth, albeit layered with that initial disdain for the holidays, which makes it a curious watch.
