Kathirukka Neramillai (1993) offers a surprisingly intriguing blend of drama and tension. The story follows Raju, a somewhat sympathetic thief, and his crew as they navigate the murky waters of morality while trying to save an orphanage. The dynamic between Raju and D.I.G. Mohanraj adds layers, with Mohanraj knowing their illicit activities but unable to act on it. There's also the tug of love between Raju and Mohanraj's daughter, Radhika, which adds a personal stake to the whole affair. The pacing can feel a bit uneven at times, but it gives room for the characters to breathe. The performances have their raw charm, and there's something about the atmosphere that balances between desperation and hope. It's the kind of film where you appreciate the flaws and the ambition behind it.
