Kick or Die is one of those off-kilter late '80s action-thrillers that really dives into the dark side of campus life. The premise—a sadistic rapist stalking female students—sets a grim tone, but it’s the self-defense lessons that weave some light into the narrative. Don Potter, the rugged, no-nonsense instructor, has some interesting chemistry with Eve Campo, the aspiring singer. The pacing is a bit uneven, oscillating between tense moments and more character-driven scenes, which some might find jarring. Practical effects are modest but serviceable, and the performances help ground the more outrageous aspects of the story. The film's blend of exploitation elements with a self-empowerment message is what makes it stand out in a crowded genre.
