Kidnapped (1986) is an animated adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s tale, and while it hasn’t received the attention some of the other versions have, it has its own charm. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it captures the adventurous spirit of the 18th-century Scottish landscape. The animation style has a simplistic quality, but it works well for the story’s tone. The performances, particularly of David Balfour and Alan Breck Stewart, carry a certain weight that brings the characters to life, even if the animation feels a tad dated. What stands out is how it navigates themes of betrayal and friendship amidst the backdrop of rebellion. It’s a unique take on a classic story, certainly worth a watch.
