Killer Tenant is one of those peculiar blends of comedy and horror that feels a bit offbeat, yet oddly engaging. Directed by Furusawa Ken, there's this strange, almost voyeuristic vibe to Murata's life as he juggles his shady arrangements and the looming threat of eviction from Taeko, his landlord. The performances are not over-the-top, which somehow makes the absurdity of the situation more palpable. The practical effects add a nice touch, especially in the horror moments that come out of nowhere, keeping you on edge. The pacing has a nice rhythm—quick and snappy yet allowing for those moments of tension that are punctuated with dark humor. It's got that indie feel that can surprise you with its charm, despite its flaws.
