Killer Whale is one of those films that leans into the raw side of fear. Directed by Jo-Anne Brechin, it’s a bit slow at first, but builds tension nicely as Maddie and Trish get increasingly desperate. The remote lagoon setting is haunting, really traps you in that isolation. The killer whale effects are practical, which gives it a raw feel that CGI often misses. They use a mix of underwater shots and surface tension to keep you on edge. Performances are solid, especially the chemistry between the leads. There’s a palpable sense of dread that creeps up as the story unfolds, making it distinct from typical creature features. Not your average horror fare, it dives into friendship and survival against a relentless nature.
