Kristen, directed by Mark Weistra, is one of those quiet, unsettling horror-thrillers that really gets under your skin. Set on a seemingly ordinary New Year’s Day, the film plays with themes of isolation and paranoia. The pacing is deliberate, allowing tension to build as Kristen, played with a haunting vulnerability, deals with the unseen tormentor. The practical effects are minimal but effective, letting the atmosphere do most of the heavy lifting. There’s a rawness to the performances that feels genuine, adding to the overall dread. The way the mysterious figure knows every little detail about Kristen creates a sense of claustrophobic fear that lingers long after the credits roll. It's a subtle movie that stays with you, more in the psychological realm than overtly graphic.
