La Soga: Salvation really captures that gritty underbelly of crime with a palpable tension. Luisito, played by a surprisingly nuanced actor, has traded his hitman past for a quiet life, but that peace shatters when his girlfriend Lia is taken. The film does a decent job of building suspense; you can feel the urgency as he’s dragged back into a world he tried to leave behind. The pacing is a bit uneven at times, but it adds to the sense of desperation. There's a rawness to the practical effects in the action scenes that feels more grounded than flashy. Themes of redemption and the struggle against one’s past play out nicely, though it can feel familiar. Still, it stands out for its atmospheric setting and character-driven storytelling.
