L'amant is quite a peculiar film, diving deep into themes of power dynamics and exploitation with a surreal lens. The atmosphere is heavy, almost oppressive in its portrayal of a young girl's transactional relationships with three older men, referred to simply as A, B, and C. The pacing is deliberate— it kind of lingers, which might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it allows you to really sit with the discomfort of the situation. Performances are raw; you can feel the tension and the shifting allegiances among the characters. The film stands out for its stark, unflinching look at sexual commerce, leaving you with more questions than answers. Not the kind of film everyone would appreciate, but definitely thought-provoking.
