Last Lives is one of those curious late '90s sci-fi gems that flies under the radar. The premise is a wild ride β a telepathic terrorist snatching a bride on her wedding day, and the groom, with the help of an inventor and a life-restoring bracelet, goes on a mission to save her. The interplay between parallel universes adds a nice layer of complexity, and the practical effects, while not groundbreaking, have a charm that feels very tactile. The pacing is a bit uneven, but it kind of works with the urgency of the groom's quest. Performances are solid, especially the tension between the groom and the telepathic antagonist. It has this unique blend of suspense and surrealism that just sticks with you.
