Lazy Bloom is quite an interesting piece in the animation family genre. The whole film revolves around these charmingly lethargic creatures known as Blobs, who live in a serene environment that feels almost dreamlike. Then, out pops Zip, who’s like a whirlwind of energy in this laid-back world, which creates a fascinating contrast. The pacing is leisurely but not dull, allowing you to soak in the beautiful animation and the quirky character designs. The themes of acceptance and individuality are woven in subtly, which gives it a nice depth. I found the practical effects intriguing, they add a handcrafted feel that’s often missing in mainstream animation. The voice performances have a warmth that really brings the characters to life, especially Zip’s exuberance against the Blobs’ calm. It’s a unique viewing experience for sure.
