So, Leslie (2013) is this quirky road trip comedy-drama that really gets into the messy side of family dynamics. Leslie Grantham and Lucy-Jane Quinlan play these heightened versions of themselves, which adds this meta layer to the whole thing. The pacing feels pretty laid-back, giving you time to absorb the moments between the characters as they trek to the Lake District. The themes of estrangement, celebrity baggage, and reconciling past relationships are pretty poignant, actually. There’s something about how they depict the awkwardness of reconnecting that feels very real. The performances have a nice balance of humor and heart, and it manages to feel both light and heavy at the same time. Not your typical road trip flick, for sure.
