Levity is an intriguing mix of crime and drama that explores guilt and redemption in a raw way. Ed Solomon's direction gives it a reflective tone, with a pacing that allows for some deep moments alongside the darker themes. Billy Bob Thornton delivers a layered performance as Manuel Jordan, a man trying to reconcile his past. The supporting cast, especially with the character of the mysterious minister, adds an unsettling depth. It feels a bit underrated in the conversation about early 2000s indie films, partly due to its nuanced take on morality. The cinematography captures a gritty atmosphere, which is pretty fitting given the subject matter. Not your typical redemption story, and that’s what makes it stand out.
