Loneliness is Soul is a quiet exploration of connections, or the lack thereof, between two women navigating life in Oakland. The film unfolds in their cramped apartment, where the occasional arrival of an itinerant musician injects a different kind of energy into their otherwise stagnant existence. The way the characters interact feels very raw and real, almost like a documentary at times. You can sense the weight of their unspoken emotions, and it’s intriguing how the musician’s presence acts as a catalyst for honesty among the characters. The pacing is deliberate, allowing moments of awkwardness and intimacy to breathe. The performances feel genuine, almost as if the actors are drawing from their own experiences. It’s definitely one of those films that stick with you in a low-key way.
