Loophole (2024) is this odd mix of comedy and horror that leans heavily into the afterlife trope, but with a twist. Our main guy, Simon, gets hit by a car, and instead of the usual dramatic reckoning, it’s more of a bureaucratic nightmare. The pacing feels a bit uneven, swinging from laugh-out-loud moments to darker themes of existential dread. I found the practical effects amusing, especially in the otherworldly sequences that felt a bit DIY but charming in their own right. The performances are pretty solid, with a certain awkwardness that really drives home the teenage experience of dealing with mortality—however strange that sounds. It’s not your typical fare and kinda refreshingly bizarre, if you ask me.
