So, 'Love at the Hill House' is a curious little gem from 1989. The film isn't particularly flashy, but it has a certain charm that grows on you. It's about Alexis, who heads out to find the place of his birth, only to crash his car and meet Aphrodite, this young woman living in isolation with her father. The pacing is rather slow, which fits the reflective tone of the story. You can really feel that haunting ambiance of the deserted location; it’s almost another character in itself. Despite the unknown director, the performances manage to convey a genuine sense of longing which is quite compelling. Practical effects are minimal, but they don't detract from the emotional core. Just an interesting mix of nostalgia and romance, really.
