Lovers of the Nile is quite the curious film, blending adventure and romance against the backdrop of World War II. It follows Anne Frendo, a young artist, whose discovery of a fallen French soldier sets off a chain of events leading her to Egypt with her aunt, an Egyptologist. The film has this dreamy, nostalgic tone, almost as if it was painted in watercolors. The pacing feels deliberate, allowing us to soak in the characters' emotions and the exotic landscapes. Practical effects, which are rather charming, transport you to another time, while the performances, especially from the leads, bring a certain depth to their journey. It’s not one you hear about often, but there's something uniquely captivating about it.
