Maligno (1986) is this curious gem that dives deep into the eerie atmosphere of a secluded academy. The film's pacing is deliberate, allowing tension to build as Susan Galligan, our new girl, grapples with her unsettling visions. There's a distinct sense of dread that hangs over the hallways, amplified by practical effects that evoke a raw, unsettling feel rather than slick modern CGI. The performances, especially from the young cast, manage to capture the confusion and fear of their characters really well. What stands out is the film's exploration of innocence lost and the dark undercurrents of a seemingly idyllic setting. Definitely one of those that creeps under your skin and lingers.
