Mallet! is a curious piece from the late '80s, a mashup of action and crime with an ultra-violent cartoon noir style. Directed by Bob Lawrie, who mainly worked in animation, it has this gritty, almost chaotic vibe that stands out. Malcolm Bennett, known for his work on BRUTE!, lent his talents as consultant and actor, which gives the film a certain edge. The pacing is somewhat erratic, matching the frantic tone of the animation. You can definitely see its fingerprints on later works that tried to blend adult themes with animation, but it never got the mainstream recognition. Still, it's fascinating to see how it played with atmosphere and practical effects—definitely not your typical cartoon fare.
