Mercy (2012) is one of those low-key dramas that sneaks up on you. The atmosphere is heavy, full of tension right from the start. Veronica's journey with her daughter into this small town sets the stage for some real emotional depth. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the viewer to really absorb the complex relationship she has with Thomas, the priest. Their reunion is charged, and I found the performances to be raw and compelling, especially given the subject matter. There's something haunting about how the themes of forgiveness and redemption play out. Practical effects are minimal, but that actually works here, letting the narrative and character-driven moments take center stage, which is quite distinctive in its own right.
