Metropolitan Main Line is an interesting snapshot of a pivotal time in London’s transport history. Shot in 1995, it captures the transition from the much-loved “A” stock trains, which had this raw, unrefined charm with their aluminum sheen, to the newer S8 stock that would eventually dominate the route. You really feel the nostalgia in how they filmed the movements, the sounds of the trains echoing through the underground. The pacing is contemplative, letting you soak in both the visual and auditory experiences of the line. It’s a fascinating look at a specific slice of railway culture that’s often overlooked, giving a sense of the everyday lives intertwined with the transit system. Definitely a unique take on a documentary subject.
