So, 'Mid Life' presents this rather quirky take on the midlife crisis. Anke and Klaus are on the verge of divorce, and their lawyers, instead of just drafting papers, suggest something a bit unconventional: sex therapy. The humor is, well, very situational—sometimes zany, sometimes cringeworthy, but it really captures that awkwardness in relationships at that stage of life. The pacing drags a bit at times, but the dialogue has its moments that bring out the characters' vulnerabilities. You can see how the lawyers are almost as much a part of the problem as the solution, which adds an interesting layer to the narrative. Not your run-of-the-mill relationship flick, for sure.
This film has a bit of a niche following, largely due to its unusual premise and offbeat humor. It's not the easiest to find, often slipping under the radar in discussions about relationship dramas, which adds to its collector appeal. Various formats have surfaced over the years, but if you can find a well-preserved VHS, it's a nice little gem for those who appreciate quirky cinema from this era.
