Midnighters has this creeping, claustrophobic vibe that really sinks in. The pacing is tight, and you can feel the tension simmering throughout. The performances, especially from the leads, are raw and believable, capturing that desperate edge of a marriage on the rocks. You just can’t help but feel the weight of their choices hanging over them. There's an interesting use of lighting and shadows that gives it that Hitchcockian feel, and while it does rely on some familiar tropes, the execution feels fresh enough. The practical effects are solid, and the atmosphere just nails that New Year’s Eve backdrop, juxtaposing celebration with dread. Not your typical horror-thriller, it's worth pondering over long after the credits roll.
Director: Julius Ramsay, feature debut.Shot in New Mexico, enhancing the eerie atmosphere.Runtime: 80 minutes, brisk pacing.Practical effects used for key suspense scenes.
