Misanthrope is a curious piece, really, bridging the worlds of classic theater and television. Adapted from Molière's work, it brings a kind of stark realism that you don't often see in TV movies. The direction is notably absent, which adds an interesting layer—perhaps a reflection of the original stage production's rawness. It’s anchored by the haunting music of Duke Ellington, which enhances the emotional weight throughout. The performances are solid, capturing the essence of human folly and isolation, typical of Molière's themes. The pacing is deliberate, inviting the viewer to really sit with the characters' struggles. Efros’ last work has this somber, introspective atmosphere that lingers long after the credits roll. Definitely a niche find for those who appreciate theatrical adaptations.
