Mise-en-Scène des Morts is this quirky comedy set in a really bizarre dystopia where you can’t photograph the living. It’s got this darkly whimsical charm, and the atmosphere feels heavy yet oddly serene, probably thanks to Antoine, our photographer protagonist. His work with cadavers creates this contrast that’s both unsettling and oddly peaceful. The rivalry with Jean-Pierre adds a layer of tension, especially when he dares to capture a living subject. It’s intriguing how the film plays with themes of art, mortality, and societal rules. The practical effects, especially in the cadaver scenes, are striking, and the performances carry a dry humor that makes it a distinct watch. Definitely one of those films that sticks with you, in a good way.
Dystopian themes are prevalent.Character dynamics are nuanced.Practical effects add to its unique aesthetic.
