Mississippi River Sharks is one of those quirky indie flicks that blends comedy with horror in a rather unique way. You’ve got a fish rodeo setting, which is already a bizarre backdrop, and then add in the absurdity of shark attacks. The pacing is, let's say, a bit uneven but that plays into the charm. Misty Talley’s direction adds a certain playfulness, and the performances definitely fit the off-kilter vibe of the script. The practical effects are surprisingly decent for a lower-budget film, too. It’s not your typical shark movie; it leans more into the absurd than the terrifying. You can tell they had fun with it, and that energy translates well on screen. Definitely one to discuss over drinks with fellow collectors.
