MoniKa is one of those gritty indie films that really leans into its raw atmosphere. The pacing is kind of erratic, which fits the story's unsettling nature; it’s almost like you're experiencing Reagan's troubled mind along with him. The violence feels very grounded, not stylized, which adds to the tension. Then there's the character of Monika—she’s enigmatic and haunting, embodying the film's romance and tragedy. The performances capture the desperation of the characters well, especially Reagan’s struggle with his visions. It's not your typical love story; it’s layered with themes of fate and loss that linger long after watching. The practical effects are pretty effective, giving it an authentic edge, which is a nice contrast to the more polished stuff out there.
