Mr. Reliable is a curious blend of comedy and crime set in the 1960s Australian landscape. You’ve got Wally, an ex-con trying to keep his nose clean with his girlfriend Beryl, but it all goes sideways when two cops show up. The tension it creates is quite something – you almost feel trapped with them in that house. The atmosphere is a mix of light-heartedness and absurdity, which is pretty refreshing. And Nadia Tass’s direction gives it a unique pacing – it’s not just about the laughs, but the awkwardness of the situation really sinks in. The performances are genuine, especially from the leads, who manage to bring a lot of charm to a chaotic scenario. It’s not your typical crime caper, more of a slice of life with a twist.
