Murder at the Savoy is an interesting entry in the early '90s Eurocrime wave. Per Berglund crafts a moody atmosphere, perfectly capturing the bleakness of Malmö. The pacing can feel a bit measured, but it builds tension nicely, and you really get sucked into the world of arms deals and moral ambiguity. The performances, especially from the lead, are solid and add depth to the characters' motivations. There's a discernible cynicism throughout that questions the nature of crime itselfâwho's really the worst here? Itâs not just a whodunit but rather an exploration of ethics in a corrupt society. And letâs not forget the practical effectsâthey're subtle but effective, anchoring the film in a gritty realism.
