MW is a rather intriguing film that adapts Osamu Tezuka's darker themes in a live-action format. It’s got this intense atmosphere that really pulls you into the moral quandaries surrounding the use of a chemical compound that wreaks havoc on an island near Okinawa. The pacing feels urgent, almost relentless, as the military's attempts to cover up their mistakes spiral out of control. There are some solid performances that drive home the desperation and ethical dilemmas faced by the characters. The practical effects are worth noting too, adding a gritty realism to the film's more shocking moments. Overall, it’s distinctive in how it mixes genres, blending drama, sci-fi, and thriller elements without ever getting too comfortable in one box.
