So, 'My Love is Aisulu' directed by Darkhan Sarkenov is this charming little comedy from 2020. It follows Sanjar, an unconfident guy facing yet another setback in his screenwriting ambitions. Just as he’s feeling down, he meets Aisulu, and you can feel that spark between them. It's sweet, really, especially with their long phone conversations that make you think of those tender, early stages of romance. The pacing feels relaxed, allowing their connection to develop naturally. The film’s atmosphere is light, almost whimsical, and there’s a nice contrast between Sanjar's imaginative but fictitious aspirations of making a film in America and his real-life struggles. The performances are sincere, lending a sort of authenticity to the whole experience. It’s got this lovely earnestness that’s hard to find.
