Naked Lunch is a wild ride through the surreal underbelly of addiction and creativity. Cronenberg's adaptation of Burroughs' work brings a fever-dream quality that's hard to shake off. The pacing is erratic, much like the protagonist Bill Lee’s spiral into madness, which keeps you on your toes. The practical effects are grotesque yet fascinating, especially the typewriter that takes on a life of its own. Peter Weller’s performance is haunting, capturing the disintegration of a man caught between reality and hallucination. The film’s atmosphere is drenched in a sort of dark humor and paranoia, creating a world that feels both vividly alive and chillingly detached. It's one of those films that stays with you long after the credits roll.
