National Security is a curious blend of action, comedy, and crime, directed by Dennis Dugan. It features Martin Lawrence as Earl, a loud, brash security guard paired with Steve Zahn’s Hank, a more subdued ex-cop. Their dynamic is a classic odd couple setup, but the humor often feels forced. The film moves quickly, with a few decent action sequences balanced by slapstick moments. Some practical effects stand out, especially during chases, which gives it that early 2000s feel. It’s not groundbreaking, but the chemistry between the leads keeps it engaging enough. The film grapples with themes of trust and redemption, albeit in a lighthearted manner, and it definitely has a certain charm despite its flaws.
