Natural History is an intriguing piece, really. The director, unknown, takes us on this quiet journey through the Natural History Museum in Vienna. I mean, it’s just 54 static shots, but they hit differently. Benning's choice to focus on off-limits spots—the offices, store rooms, those eerie empty corridors—creates this unique meditative feel. You get a sense of the museum's personality, stuff you wouldn't normally see. The pacing is deliberate, almost hypnotic, which might not appeal to everyone, but it allows you to soak in the atmosphere. No flashy effects here, just the stark beauty of the mundane. It’s definitely a film that invites reflection. Worth having in any serious collection for its artistry.
