Nightfall is one of those flicks that doesn't shy away from its horror roots. You can really feel the gritty, grimy atmosphere of Seattle as FBI agent Jack Talbot gets deeper into this vampire mess. The pacing has its lulls but ramps up nicely when it needs to, especially in the latter half. The practical effects are a highlight—definitely not skimping on the gore and the vampire transformations are surprisingly well done for the era. Performances are solid enough, but it’s Talbot's descent into madness that pulls you in. It’s a blend of investigative thriller and supernatural horror that feels a bit underappreciated compared to other vampire films from the late '90s. It’s a shame it doesn’t get more love in collector circles.
