The practical effects are pretty decent for a budget flick; they add a nice texture to some of the scarier scenes, which, I must say, are surprisingly effective given the comedic undertones. Rikka Ihara's performance is charming, and it feels like there’s a deeper theme of friendship and acceptance lurking beneath the surface.
