No Rest for the Wicked has this gritty, almost claustrophobic vibe that really captures the essence of early 2000s Madrid. It centers on Santos Trinidad, a police inspector whose drunken escapades lead to a rather messy triple murder. What I find intriguing is how the film plays with the concept of morality; Santos is both the hunter and the hunted. The pacing can be a bit uneven, but it builds tension effectively, especially as Santos tries to track down the witness who could ruin him. There’s a rawness to the performances that feels very real, and the practical effects add a layer of grittiness that’s hard to ignore. It’s a dark, atmospheric ride through the underbelly of crime and consequence.
