Northern Borders is an interesting piece set in 1956, following young Austen Kittredge as he navigates life at his grandparents' Vermont farm. The film has a nostalgic, almost dreamlike quality that really captures the essence of childhood innocence amidst the backdrop of family dynamics. The pacing feels deliberate, allowing you to soak in the atmosphere of rural life while gradually peeling back layers of family secrets. Performances are solid, especially from the young lead who really embodies that curious spirit of a child. There’s a tangible authenticity to the setting, and while it may not have flashy effects, it's the grounded storytelling and emotional depth that give it a unique standing among indie dramas.
