So, 'Novelties' is quite an intriguing little indie drama from 2010, directed by... well, no one seems to know who directed it. The story follows Ian, who intentionally loses his cell phone in this almost desperate attempt to connect with his dream girl. He ends up meeting Jill, but her disinterest in him takes this interesting turn. The pacing is a bit contemplative, and there's a rawness to the performances that feels genuine. The atmosphere leans toward the wistful, with themes of unrequited love and the awkwardness of teenage crushes. You can really sense the emotional weight of that unspoken love note he never gave. It's a unique take on longing and obsession, and it feels personal in a way many films don’t.
