October Rust is one of those curious little horror films that uses the mundane task of raking leaves as a backdrop for something much deeper. The atmosphere is thick, almost suffocating, with a sense of dread that creeps in as the protagonist grapples with more than just nature's decay. The pacing has this slow burn quality, which builds tension effectively, letting the audience marinate in the protagonist's unease. The practical effects are surprisingly well done, especially for a lower budget - they really enhance the eerie vibe. Even though the director remains unknown, the performances have this rawness that adds to the unsettling feeling. It’s distinctive in how it makes the ordinary feel so menacing, flipping the script on everyday tasks.
