Oh! Heavenly Dog is a quirky blend of comedy and fantasy, with a nice touch of crime woven in. You've got this down-on-his-luck PI, Browning, played with a sort of hapless charm, who’s got a cold that seems to drag him down even more. The pacing is a bit erratic, probably a product of its time, but it adds to that offbeat charm. The premise of facing the afterlife and being 'marginal material' is pretty intriguing, leading to some amusing moments. Practical effects are minimal but charming, and the whimsical tone keeps it light despite the dark themes of death and justice. It’s one of those films that captures an odd slice of late '70s, early '80s cinema in a way that's hard to pinpoint but easy to appreciate.
