Okhonoon (1987) is an intriguing drama that was created for television by Gosteleradio YASSR. The film, originally shot on 16mm, has this distinct rawness owing to its eventual transfer to video, which gives it a kind of gritty texture. The sound and music were overlaid later, and there's something haunting about the way it was pieced together. The pacing feels almost disjointed at times, which adds to its unique atmosphere. Unfortunately, much of the film has been lost, with only a fragment left, making it a curious artifact of its time. It’s worth noting the performances, though, they carry an emotional weight that lingers, even in the chopped-up version we have now. It’s a different viewing experience, for sure.
