One For The Road brings a chilling atmosphere that feels steeped in dread. The snowstorm sets a perfect backdrop for the isolation and impending doom. The pacing has a slow build, which really allows the tension to seep in as the main character discovers the dark legacy of Jerusalem's Lot. The practical effects, especially when they emerge from the shadows, have a certain rawness that adds to the film's haunting nature. Though the director is unknown, the performances give a sense of genuine terror and vulnerability. You can almost feel the cold, as if it seeps through the screen. It’s a fresh take on King’s story that taps into the themes of fear and survival in the face of the supernatural.
