Only the Lonely is this intriguing blend of drama and horror that really leans into its eerie atmosphere. The story follows a young woman dealing with the haunting absence of her husband, who disappeared during his tour of duty. What’s fascinating, though, is how the repetition of that same song throughout the film creates this almost claustrophobic feeling. It’s almost like a character in itself, embedding itself in her psyche. The pacing has a slow burn quality, which I find adds to the overall tension. The performances are quite compelling, especially how the lead actress grapples with grief and isolation. There’s not a lot of flashy effects, but the practical touches and sound design really elevate the haunting tone. It’s definitely distinctive in how it explores loss and the creeping dread that comes with it.
