Oratorio for Prague is a fascinating piece. Directed by Jan Němec, it starts off as a look at the hopefulness and liberalization of Czechoslovakia, but quickly morphs into something much darker as the Soviet tanks roll in. The pacing is quite stark, capturing that unsettling shift from optimism to despair. You really feel the atmosphere of tension and uncertainty. It's raw and almost journalistic in its approach, which makes the whole thing feel very immediate. The practical effects are just the reality unfolding before the camera, no frills, no dramatization—just truth. The performances, if you can call them that, are really just the reactions of people caught in a historical moment. It’s a distinctive blend of art and documentary that showcases a turbulent time in history.
