Ordinary Wilderness is one of those films that captures the uncertainty of youth in an almost haunting way. Fred's journey is relatable; he’s grappling with the pressures of adulthood while living in the shadows of his brother's success. The pacing is deliberately slow, allowing you to soak in the blistering summer atmosphere of North Carolina, which feels almost oppressive at times. The performances, especially from Fred's friend Donnie, bring a rawness that feels authentic. It’s not flashy, but there's something about the simplicity of the storytelling that resonates. The film does a fine job of exploring themes of failure and companionship, making the mundane seem poignant. Definitely a unique watch in the indie drama landscape.
