So, 'Our Father…' from '93 is a heavy watch. You’ve got Juhani Haavisto returning home, and it’s intense. The atmosphere is thick with tension as he faces his father Eino, who’s in a wheelchair and losing grip on reality. The film doesn’t shy away from the darker themes of childhood trauma, sexual abuse, and violence. It’s raw, really. The pacing is deliberate, letting the weight of each moment settle, and the performances are gripping in their authenticity. You can feel the emotional scars, both in the characters and in the narrative itself. It’s not flashy or overproduced, which somehow makes it more powerful. Definitely a unique piece in the drama genre, and the practical effects used are minimal but impactfully haunting.
