So, 'Pass and Goal' is quite the interesting mix of grit and heart. Set against this backdrop of financial ruin, you’ve got Hay Man, who’s lost everything and is forced to navigate life far removed from her former glitz. The atmosphere is raw, almost claustrophobic at times, especially in that small neighborhood where the coaching takes place. The pacing, it feels very much like the ebb and flow of a football match – moments of tension punctuated by brief lulls. The performances are solid, particularly the dynamic between Hay and her cousin Ying, which adds some depth. A lot of practical effects in the football scenes – real kids playing, real struggles portrayed. Definitely has that underdog vibe, but it’s more about personal redemption than just the game itself.
