Pastorela is an interesting blend of comedy, fantasy, and romance, with a unique take on the holiday season. The film follows Agent Jesus Juarez, known affectionately as Chucho, who’s been playing the role of the Devil in his town's Nativity Play for years. This year, however, a new pastor comes in and shakes things up by recasting the role. You really get this battle of wills, good versus evil, but it’s wrapped in a very light-hearted, often humorous package. The performances, particularly Chucho’s, feel genuine and bring a certain charm to the proceedings. It’s not a typical holiday flick, and the atmosphere sort of dances between playful and contemplative, which makes it stand out in the genre.
